Being contested in New Orleans, Louisiana, for the first time in 11 years, Super Bowl XLVII will pit the NFC champion versus the AFC champion on February 3, 2013, at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome. The NFC champion will be the home team, while the AFC champion will be the away team. Other bids that were considered to host Super Bowl XLVII were from the University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale, Arizona (which will host Super Bowl XLIX), and Sun Life Stadium near Miami, Florida. This will be the 10th Super Bowl hosted by the city of New Orleans. The others were Super Bowl IV, won by the Kansas City Chiefs over the Minnesota Vikings; Super Bowl VI, won by the Dallas Cowboys over the Miami Dolphins; Super Bowl IX, won by the Pittsburgh Steelers over the Vikings; Super Bowl XII, won by the Cowboys over the Denver Broncos; Super Bowl XV, won by the Oakland Raiders over the Philadelphia Eagles; Super Bowl XX, who by the Chicago Bears over the New England Patriots; Super Bowl XXIV, won by the San Francisco 49ers over the Broncos; Super Bowl XXXI, who by the Green Bay Packers over the Patriots; and Super Bowl XXXVI, who by the Patriots over the St. Louis Rams. CBS-TV, which owns American rights to the telecast, will charge $4 million per 30-second commercial. The Superdome, which has a capacity of 76,468 for football, opened August 3, 1975. Green Bay Packers

The Green Bay Packers are one of the most successful franchises in sports history. Despite serious financial problems in the early years, the Packers survived and have now earned more championships (13) than any other National Football League team. Green Bay is the only franchise to win three consecutive titles twice, and 20 players who spent the majority of their careers with the Packers are in the Pro Football Hall of Fame. In 1919, Earl "Curly" Lambeau used the financial backing of the Indian Packaging Company to organize a professional football team, and the club joined the NFL in 1921. The Packers captured league crowns in three straight seasons beginning in 1929, thanks to the efforts of stars such as Johnny Blood, Lavie Dilweg, Cal Hubbard, Verne Lewellen and Mike Michalske. Coach Lambeau led Green Bay to three more titles in 1936, 1939 and 1944, with Arnie Harber, Clarke Hinkle and Don Hutson providing the heroics. In 1959, Vince Lombardi took over a squad that had won only once the previous season and produced five championship teams in nine years, adding two Super Bowl victories. Among the most memorable triumphs from the 1960s era - featuring Bart Starr, Paul Hornung, Jerry Kramer, Ray Nitschke, Willie Wood and many others - were a 37-0 pounding of the New York Giants in the 1961 NFL championship game and a 21-17 decision over Dallas in the 1967 "Ice Bowl" that led to a second consecutive Super Bowl victory. The Green and Gold returned to the top in the 1990s under coach Mike Holmgren, advancing to two Super Bowls and winning Super Bowl XXXI 35-21 over New England with catalysts such as Brett Favre and Reggie White. Behind the efforts of Aaron Rodgers, Greg Jennings, Charles Woodson and Clay Matthews, Green Bay earned a Wild Card berth in 2010, won three road playoff games and defeated Pittsburgh 31-25 in Super Bowl XLV. New York Yankees

The New York Yankees are not only the greatest franchise in the history of baseball, but all of sports. Since 1923 when the Bronx Bombers moved into Yankee Stadium - the ultimate shrine to baseball - this extraordinary ball club has won 39 American League pennants and 26 World Series championships.

One of only four franchises in baseball annals to claim at least three consecutive World Championships, the Yankees have done it three times. From 1949 through 1953, the Yankees rattled off an unprecedented five straight World Series championships, and beginning in 1955, the New Yorkers captured nine A.L. flags in a 10-year span. Success continued throughout the century, with the Yankees earning four World Series crowns from 1996 through 2000.

Selecting the best teams among the many remarkable squads wearing pinstripes through the years is a difficult task, but those that come to mind immediately are the 1927, 1961 and 1998 clubs. The 1927 team, featuring Babe Ruth's 60 home runs, Lou Gehrig's 175 RBIs and Waite Hoyt's 22 wins, is considered by most baseball experts as the greatest in history. Roger Maris and Mickey Mantle combined for an amazing 115 home runs and Whitey Ford chalked up 25 wins for the magnificent 1961 team, while Derek Jeter, Bernie Williams and David Cone drove the 1998 squad to a mind-boggling 114 regular-season victories.

Other superstars who have thrilled the faithful at the House That Ruth Built over the decades include pitcher Carl Mays, who posted 27 wins during the Yanks' first pennant year of 1921; center fielder Joe DiMaggio, whose brilliance led to the team's dominance in the 1940s; Yogi Berra, who claimed three A.L. Most Valuable Player awards in the 1950s; and Reggie Jackson, whose three home runs on three consecutive pitches in the decisive game of the 1977 World Series are legendary. Even some Yankees managers are renown, including Miller Huggins, Joe McCarthy, Casey Stengel and current skipper Joe Torre.

Through 2004, the New Yorkers have qualified for post-season play in 10 consecutive years. And there seems to be no slowing down this incredible juggernaut.
